A Typical Day at Lower Camp

Lower Campers will arrive at camp sitting on the passenger side of their vehicle wearing a face covering. They will be greeted by colorfully adorned staff and music playing. After their individual health screening with the camp nurse and health supervisors, campers will wash their hands before joining their counselors and other members of their group in a socially distant circle. While all of the campers arrive, groups will play circle games and sing favorite camp songs. At 9:00 am, campers will be off to the first choice of special for the day.  This morning campers might have been given a choice of Arts and Crafts or Sports and Games. Campers will ensure their face covering is back on and set out for their specials. Campers who choose Arts and Crafts will head to an outdoor tent and be greeted with tables of specialized materials and supplies for the day’s craft. As counselors take out the group’s common supplies (markers, scissors, colored pencils, glue sticks, etc.) and delivery an individual bag to each camper, a bag that only they will use throughout the day, our Arts and Crafts specialist will walk campers through the activity from a social distance. Once settled into their socially distant places Campers will be allowed to remove their masks to enjoy art time.  Campers who choose Sports and Games will head to a field adjacent to Arts and Crafts and line up in a line of socially distant hula hoops for a soccer shootout. Once safely in line these campers too will be allowed to remove their masks. Each camper will be given their own ball to dribble in line as they wait for their chance to step up to the shooting line and try to score on their counselor. Of course the camper who scores the most will earn all important points for their Color War team!

When the specials end, campers will put their masks back on and head off to one of our outdoor hand washing stations, before transitioning to a designated group time tent, already prepared with socially distant spaces. Once in this space, campers may again remove their face covering and enjoy their packed snacks and, if time allows, play a group bonding game. Meanwhile, the specialists are busy cleaning and disinfecting the tables and supplies these campers just used. The Art Specialist wipes down and disinfects the tables, while preparing new supplies for the next group, and the Sports Specialist disinfects the balls. Back at the group, after practicing their Secret Agent skills of not leaving a trace, campers will clean up from their snack time, put on masks, and complete a secret mission from the Camp Directors as they travel to the handwashing station before continuing on to Epic Adventures. After sunscreen application, sipping some water, and slipping off their masks it’s time for campers to dive into fun! Whether it be a water blaster battle where campers stay in their socially distant “battle stations” or a slick, splashy adventure down our giant slip and slide, Epic Adventures will be all about the water games this summer!

After this cool down, campers will dry off, put on their masks, wash their hands and head off on a seeking scavenger hunt as they make their way to group time where masks can come off and they might play an academic review game prepared by our educators on staff or compete in a Simon Says challenge. Then it’s masks back on, another stop by the hand washing station before heading to their next two special choices. After the specials are over it one more hand wash before heading to the big tent for Closing Meeting. At closing meeting each group will sit in socially distant sections and each camper will sit in a socially distant space. At closing meeting highlights from the days challenges will play on the big screen, so campers can see how their Color War teammates in different groups performed. As the highlight reel comes to an end, camper names will begin to be called for pick up at noon.

While each day the activities will be a little different so campers have the opportunity to visit all of our specialists, we hope this gives you a good overview of what your camper will experience at Lincoln Summer Camp this summer.
